r/shoujo · My problem is with shoujo romance and searching for recommendations.Maybe try Chihayafuru (it's a josei), Colette Decides to Die and Wake up Sleeping Beauty
r/shoujo · My problem is with shoujo romance and searching for recommendations.I have a similar problem to you. In The Clear Moonlit Dusk and Fall In Love You False Angels didn’t work for me either (and tbh neither did the FLs, I just found everyone utterly hollow), but I loved Yona of the Dawn, Chihayafuru, House of the Sun, Nina The Starry Bride and so on. (Definitely go read Fruits Basket). I also noticed the above mentioned 2 titles are both Dessert Magazine works which are known for their low-stakes saccharine romances so maybe try some titles from other magazines. The rule of thumb that works for me are basically fantasy settings, stories with a bit more of a gimm
r/shoujo · What is the best shoujo to recommend to a someone who never read shoujoThat really depends on a lot of factors! I think one of the most wonderful things about manga is that everyone can find something to fit their most niche interest. When you think about the person you want to recommend a story to, what genres do they usually like? Science fiction (Please Save My Earth), fantasy (From Far Away), fashion (NANA, High School Debut), drama (Peach Girl, Ao Haru Ride), sports and competitions (Chihayafuru, Purikyuu), video games… Are there sensitive or triggering themes avoid in your recommendations? You’ve got a more complicated question than you might think.
