Aoyagi Ritsuka is one troubled 6th grader. Two years ago, he mysteriously lost his memory and developed an alternate personality. His mother constantly berates (and occasionally beats) him, asking what happened to the "real" Ritsuka, and his only defender and friend, his older brother Seimei, was recently killed. Suddenly, Seimei's apparent "friend," Soubi, appears. Soubi tells him that Ritsuka's true name is "Loveless," and that Soubi was assigned by Seimei to take care of Ritsuka and protect him. Ritsuka soon gets sucked into a bizzare underground society where teams of people, a "Fighter Unit," and a "Sacrifice," battle using elaborate and beautifully-phrased spells. He seeks both acceptance of himself, and the answer to the mystery of who killed his brother and why. (Source: TOKYOPOP)

r/shoujo · What's the weirdest premise on a shoujo you've seen/read?Loveless. Virgins have cat ears and tails that are lost upon having sex. Weird enough but it gets even stranger once magical battles full of S and M imagery are thrown into the mix. It is the kind of thing that could either go down the sexy, silly romp route or straight into nightmare fuel. Loveless chooses nightmare fuel of the prettiest, most deranged kind.
r/shoujo · Any stories that deals with mature themes like child abuse or family conflictLoveless. And to what an extent. It is known for the cat ears and very disturbing “relationship” between a 20 yo man and a 12 yo boy but that is part and parcel of the horror. Virtually every single character has undergone severe abuse, with Ritsuka’s being beaten by his mother happening a lot, throughout the story.
