APOSIMZ

r/manga · Recommendations for hard, desolate, mysterious "ultra-scifi"

You need to read Noise then read blame again to fully understand the story. I re-read blame like every 2 years and catch new things every read. Aposimz and knights of sidonia by the same author are "similar"

Ghost in the shell or Appleseed? You could maybe check out Blame or Aposimz by Tsutomu Nihei Heavenly Delusion for something newer.

Aposimz, by Tsutomu Nihei (same author as Abara). Claymore and Colorless, kind of? Moreso for the villains though. Also maybe Dai Dark. And maybe Battle Angel Alita would work; there's a lot of body modification there. More niche, The Tree of Death: Yomotsuhegui has some of this vibe. So does Wild Strawberry, though it has no physical English release.

Oh if she likes BLAME! and Tower Dungeon, she should check out more of Tsutomu Nihei's works. Aposimz, Abara, Biomega, Knights of Sidonia. Note that Abara and Biomega are out of print and expensive physically but you can find them digitally easily enough. She might dig Dorohedoro. Grungy, violent, funny, with great mystery and fantastic characters. The antagonists are just as loveable as the protagonists. Land of the Lustrous might be a good one to check out. Interesting setting and cool art. I'm a huge fan of Heavenly Delusion. Superb mystery and great characters. Unfortunately only 7 of
