Shiki

r/shoujo · Gothic anime recommendations?

Maybe "The Wallflower" or "xxxholic". But you could also try some horror anime's like "Death Parade", "Another" and "shiki". Or "Black Butler", they are not shojo though.

r/manga · What do you think is the best manga that will never have an anime adaptation?

Yotsuba&! I don't know how truthful it is but I always see people say the mangaka is doubtful an anime adaptation could capture the work properly. I'll also give shout outs to Angel Densetsu, Route End, Holyland, Karakuji Douji Ultimo and Sukima-Shiki (a small collection of one shots). Also a bunch of romance series will never see the light of day.

Hellsing : 10 volumes, complete. Anime: Hellsing Ultimate (10 OVAs). Very dark, violent, gothic vampire action. Probably the safest recommendation if you want badass vampires + blood + gothic atmosphere. Vampire Hunter D : manga adaptations vary, but the original novel series is ongoing. Bloodlust is a movie. Extremely gothic: castles, aristocratic vampires, dhampirs, horror and tragic romance. Very strong choice if aesthetics matter to you. Shiki : 11 volumes, complete. Anime: 22 episodes. Starts slowly but becomes seriously dark and disturbing. More horror than stylish vampire action

It is not easy to find, but the anime series Shiki is so dang good. Think Stephen King's Salem's Lot, but with a very Japanese twist. It also does some perspective flips that really make the story hit hard.
